Check out this old picture of Falicon that I just found in the book- Missouri's Contribution to American Architecture 1927. the home of Edward C. Dameron. Built in 1897 by Shepley, Rutan & Coolidge and John Lawrence Mauran. Mr. Dameron is rumored to be the one who invented the train car coupler.

Stayed here years ago when it was the Falicon Inn. Run by an Illinois farmer and his wife. She cooked the meals and basically ran the inn, he did the mechanical/maintenance and would leave to run his large farmstead across the Mississippi. They had a few fabulous old cars in their garage, on of several outbuildings on their grounds. I believe they had old carriages as well. The main house was grand inside, replete with opulent fixtures, heavy woodwork, and massive furniture. The opulent lengthy dining room was set with a fully extended table with lavish place settings for 20+? We sat at one end of this table for our multi-course breakfast cooked by the owner’s wife. Enormous bedroom at the top of the enormous staircase offered a huge four poster bed and heavy, massive furnishings from years gone by. They were in the process of renovating bedrooms when we were there, one at a time. Huge, dark panelled library with various vintage pieces of a well-read and well-travelled person, obviously a collection of the original owner including old clocks, globes, humidors, etc. Beautiful grounds. Overwhelming amount of property to maintain for this couple. Often wondered where they went and what became of this beautiful place. Scenic countryside setting, deliberately added this B&B to our travel itinerary along with a stop in Hannibal on one of our many, many trips to the Ozarks.

Is this still a bed and breakfast? I would like to visit it again with my daughter. the house is absolutely beautiful.
