Eagle Days & a Special Open House January 28

Missouri is one of the leading bald eagle states. Thousands of Eagles migrate south each fall to hunt around the open waters of our rivers and lakes. More than 2,000 bald eagles are reported in Missouri regularly during winter, making our state one of the leaders in the lower 48 states. The bald eagle was formally adopted as our national emblem in 1782. In the 200 years since, its numbers suffered a great decline. However the bald eagle has recovered and it is reported that more than 7,000 nesting pairs are found in the lower 48 states. In 1995, the federal government downgraded the bald eagle’s status from endangered to threatened throughout its range. A few bald eagles usually are seen in Missouri by mid-fall but most arrive in December. In some cases, a bird will return to the same location each winter to find food in unfrozen lakes and rivers.

Grace House

The Grace House located at 101 S 3^rd Street, MO 63336

This is an extraordinarily rare opportunity to buy an important building designed by noted architects Charles Nagel & Frederick Dunn who designed many fine homes & churches in the St. Louis area.

This property was the quaint Grace Church that looked over the town of Clarksville. It was established in 1869, but the current structure was built in 1940. The red brick building is in Georgian style, with dentil molding, a barrel roof, dual staircases leading to the front door & 5-foot porthole windows.

Grace Church- Clarksville is gleaming again!

I was in Clarksville this week and drove by the old Grace Church that was sold last year to a St. Louis couple. They are turning it into a studio/loft. I need to pop by to say hello, I hear they are nice.

Frederick Dunn designed this beauty…what a treat to have it in Clarksville!

An Afternoon in Louisiana, Missouri Pike County, MO

Yesterday I spent the morning working on our farm house in Pike County and then I went up to Louisiana, MO for some meetings. It was such a beautiful day and the Fall colors are close to peaking….so hurry and get up to Pike County to look at them this weekend. The Applefest is going on in Clarksville.

My first stop was to look at the super- cool buildings on Water Street that used to be the old water treatment plant. A St. Louis couple has transformed two buildings into very exciting spaces. Both are for sale for a reasonable amount.

This is an interior space that could be a great bar/restaurant.

This outdoor space almost looks like the Serra sculpture at the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis. There is a pool in the middle.

In a another building is a cool loft living space.

And look at the view….these buildings are right on the Mississippi…though high enough that flooding is not an issue.

Nest stop was to meet with Karen over at The Eagle's Nest Bistro, B&B and Winery. She runs such a nice business and it is very popular! She is thinking about retiring and her successful business is for sale. Click HERE for more information.

The old Stark home on 3rd looked beautiful with the maple ablaze!

Homecoming at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eolia, MO Pike County

Yesterday I attended St. John's Homecoming services and picnic. It was a lovely day to get a little religion (I am not Episcopalian, though everyone is welcome!) and feast on the pot-luck supper. The attendees always bring the best food. I brought my Green Chili and Rice Casserole. Get the recipe HERE. This event is usually the first Sunday in October.

The church dates back to the mid-1800s and was built with the donated bricks from the original owner of this HOUSE.

Grace Episcopal Church- Clarksville, MO FOR SALE

A special treat that the Landmarks Association had during our tour of Pike County last Saturday was a visit to the charming Grace Episcopal Church that is for sale. The original church was built in 1869 and burnt to the ground. Frederick Dunn and Charles Nagel were recruited from St. Louis to design the new church that was built in 1940. I remember going to see Christine Brewer sing in the church sometime during the 80's. This church is now For Sale for just $115,000. At this point the Episcopalian Diocese just wants someone to take care of this treasure….so make an offer! Think wedding business venue…unique home…or start your own religion!
